Thank you for offering to be my Assistant! Your job is just as important as mine. Without you, there is chaos! You can't leave the area. Get a chair and station yourself next to us.
You are part Drill Sergeant, part Super Nanny, part loving Grandparent. The Line Manager makes the line go smoothly and helps me get more faces painted. To do that, you need to:
Have the customers look at the pictures and decide what they want before they sit down with me. Let them know I can
Change the color to their favorite
Add painted lips
Customize it as they want
Nicely, make them say the name of the face they want back to you. Otherwise, they will get to me, sit down, and then need to stand back up and walk over to the board to point out the photo to me. I know the names, just get them to remember it.
If they have bangs or just whisps, use some of the glitter gel and bobby pins I will provide and pull their hair away from their face.
Keep a line going. It is very easy for little ones to get confused on who is next.
I can only do 20 very FAST faces per hour, 10 of the involved ones. If my employer needs me to stop at a specific time, you need to keep an eye on the line. If at 2 hours before closing time, we have 40 people waiting, we need to close the end of the line off. Keep your eye on the line, and do the math. If needed, and appropriate, call our host and ask if they want to pay me to continue past the scheduled stop time.
HOW TO CLOSE THE LINE: You need to go to the end of the line and tell the last people how long it is going to take. Some will not want to wait. Then, ask for a volunteer to wear my END OF THE LINE sign. That volunteer gets my BEST face of the day with extra goodies! But, only if they are willing to wait, and help by telling everyone we are closed.
Help the volunteer understand: No one gets turned away without a thank you, and a pretty sticker - if they would like one. I bring books of stickers with me.
